Background
The 2023 Community Social Assessment (CSA) reveled a decline in the number of families living in Banff. During the community engagement phase, families identified childcare, housing and cost of living challenges as major challenges. Some shared that these pressures could them to leave the community.
About the Assessment
To better understand resident experiences and local childcare needs, the Town of Banff began a Childcare Needs Assessment in fall 2024. Three surveys were shared with distinct community populations: Banff families who were using or seeking childcare services, childcare workers, and employers/businesses in Banff.
Survey data was collected through January 2025, after which a final report, including findings and recommendations, was presented to Council and shared publicly on April 28. Action is now being taken on the nine report recommendations- engaging community partners to improve the state of childcare in Banff.
Outcomes
Nine recommendations were made to improve childcare in Banff. Action is now being taken, with community partners engaged to improve childcare in Banff.

This survey is for current or former staff who have worked in the childcare sector in Banff the past 5 years, working with children aged 12 or under.
If you are working, or worked at multiple childcare service locations, please summarize your experiences in your responses or reflect on the location which you worked at the most.
