Community Social Assessment

The 2023 Community Social Assessment report is now available. It's based on community engagement and data compiled through 2023.

The Community Social Assessment aims to create a snapshot in time of the community's social well-being and vitality - our strengths, assets and opportunities, along with our issues and challenges. This picture helps us to determine how to best direct support and close existing gaps. It also serves as an incentive to encourage new thinking and action to respond to opportunities and issues alike.

In order to support community well-being, it is crucial to have a detailed understanding of the social picture of one's community. To do this, we are gathering insights from Banff residents through hosted community conversations and a public input survey.

We are asking: How can you live your best life in Banff?

Assessment Timeline

Phase 1 – Assessment Launch – Complete

The Town of Banff shares what has changed since the 2018 Community Social Assessment and calls on residents to take part in the 2023 Community Social Assessment. Hosted community conversations and the public input survey are open and Banff residents are invited and encouraged to participate.

Phase 2 – Gathering Information – Complete

Town of Banff staff and community organizations, agencies and groups hosted 42 community conversations and along with a simultaneous survey engaged with close to 700 Banff residents (approximately 8% of the population). We heard from:

  • all ages and family makeup
  • those who are here for a short while and those whose generations have been here decades
  • those from multiple cultures and Indigenous peoples
  • groups connected by recreation, arts, sports, food and health
  • businesses, organizations, nonprofits and grass roots groups

Phase 3 – Processing Themes & Trends - Complete

We had 700 locals share their opinions and the preliminary findings are in. It's time to check back with the community to see if you agree, have other comments to add, and to help prioritize actions. We will have pop up displays at various community activities and events including:

  • October 4, Community Table Lunch 12 -1 p.m. Catharine Robb Whyte Building
  • October 5, Volunteer Appreciation BBQ 11.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m. Banff Town Hall
  • Survey Below - Open until October 27

Phase 4 – Community Social Assessment Report & Presentation - Complete

Town of Banff staff will complete the 2023 Community Social Assessment report. This report will be shared with Town of Banff Council, community stakeholders and the public.
